THE first ever American to pull on the primrose and blue has been named in Jimmy Lowes' 19 man squad ahead of Sunday's trip to Castleford.
Eighteen year-old winger/centre Taylor Welch, (pictured left) who was born and lived in Texas before moving to Lymm, is on standby should Chris Riley not be cleared to play.
Described as a "robust, strong winger in the mould of Brian Carney," Welch was born and raised in the United States to an American  mother and  father.
Shortly after his mother passed away, his father remarried an English woman and the family moved over to live in the UK in 2003.
He began playing rugby union at Lymm High School, where the Wolves scouted him. He then took up playing rugby league with Crosfields ARLFC. Following a successful trial he signed up to the Wolves Academy in 2006.
A strong year in the Reserves side in 2008 has seen the American called into Jimmy Lowes’ squad for the trip to Castleford  this Sunday, which is on SKY TV and kicks off at 7.30pm.
