WORLD CUP winner and Warrington Town F.C. old boy Roger Hunt was special guest at a legends event which helped raise more than £4,500 for club funds.
Roger, who started his career with Stockton Heath was spotted by a Liverpool scout playing at the Loushers Lane ground as a 19 year-old and signed for the Reds after doing his national service, becoming the club’s international goal scoring forward, achieving the ultimate dream of lifting the World cup for England in 1966.
Roger, who ran a successful haulage business in Culcheth, was joined at the event by other “local lads who made good”, ex-Man City star Gary Owen and Coventry City Chairman Ray Ranson at the Cantlever Park event.
All three donated their services free of charge to help Warrington Town raise as much funds as possible in their bid to achieve football league status.
The event was hosted by Gary who agreed to become the club’s ambassador at the start of the current season when a new board took control of the cash strapped club, pledging to turn around its fortunes.
Funds were raised from a hot pot supper and auction items which included a signed Roger Hunt shirt which raised £1,000 from club board member Jeff Greenwood, (pictured right).
Other auction prizes included a signed United Tevez shirt and a signed Liverpool Gerrard shirt and hospitality for
two at Warrington Wolves.
