Pedal power boost for cycling

PUPILS from schools across Warrington have been using pedal power to promote Bike to School Week across the town.
Around 30 pupils from Dallam Primary School, Bewsey Lodge Primary School and Westbrook Old Hall Primary School, took part in a ride through Sankey Valley Park in a bid to promote the event and get others in the town to ride to school.
With the support of the council’s Travel Plan Team, community support officers and neighbourhood wardens, the pupils cycled across paths and woodland, before filling in questionnaire sheets at their schools about the ride and being healthy.
Children who cycle are confident, more independent and intelligent, according to Bike For All, a joint initiative run by the Department of Transport and The Bicycle Association.
They claim just 15 minutes cycling to and from school could make a real difference to a child’s fitness, establishing habits of healthy activity that could be life-long.
Bike To School Week started on Monday of this week and runs until tomorrow (Friday, May 9).
