I wish the prison officer a speedy recovery. This shows what a dangerous job these guys have and how little support is forthcoming to the prison service from outside agencies such as government. No wonder there is a high turnover of staff and morale is on the floor. It seems to me reading the papers that people are quick to knock the prison service but forget that a lot of the staff have a difficult job to do as they are working with the dregs of society. I know from friends in the prison service that they are underfunded, under resourced and undervalued. Would that they (not to mention nurses, police etc) be given a pay increase in line with the MPs recent one.
