MY husband Frank was based in Burtonwood from 1969-1972. I met my husband in 69 and we got married the following year.
We lived in army quarters on the base from 70-72. Our first child Terry was born at Warrington General Hospital on March 10, 1971, I did return in 1973 while my husband was in an army school learning his new MOS, Computer Programming.
Our daughter Paula was born in Warrington General hospital in September of 73.
Our next door neighbor Mrs Jean Gately introduced me to the lovely American custom of the “Baby Shower” we sure did appreciate all of those wonderful gifts!
Jean & her husband Bob were the god parents of our son Terry, unfortunately Bob died shortly after we left for the US. And I think Jean is now a teacher living somewhere on the East Coast.
We left Burtonwood on May 24th 1972 for the USA, our first posting was to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
My husband served 20 years in the US Army, we were stationed in various places, Hawaii, Germany, Arizona, Illinois just to name a few. But we never forgot our first place together at Burtonwood, we have a lot of fond memories of that base.
We have been married for 35 years and have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. I became an American citizen and work for a department of defense contractor. We met some really nice people at Burtonwood, hopefully we can get in touch with them again.
