Man attacked from behind

A MAN attacked an acquaintance from behind during a fracas outside a Warrington town centre bar.
It was a completely unprovoked attack although at the time Jamie Wood, 19, thought the other man had attacked a friend of his earlier in the evening, Warrington Crown Court heard.
Wood, of Moat Hill Court, Warrington admitted causing an affray and was given an eight month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete 250 hours unpaid community work.
Joanne Clark, prosecuting, played a CCTV tape in court which show three separate disturbances outside The Big Bar, in Bridge Street, Warrington. The defendant was involved in all three – and in the last was seen to throw a punch at the victim from behind.
Michael Davies, defending, said Wood was due to become a father in July and had not touched alcohol since the incident because he wanted to become a role model to his child. On the night he had “got a bee in his bonnet” after drinking too much.
Judge Nicholas Woodward told Wood: “I strongly suspect you have started to change because you’ve met someone you care for and you are at a genuine turning point in your life.”
