Residents oppose plan for waste composting

MORE than 60 people have lodged objections to a plan to expand an organic waste composting business at Culcheth, Warrington.
Farmer David Broster, of Wilton Lane, Culcheth is seeking planning consent to increase the amount of waste he deals with from 35,000 tonnes a year to 75,000 tonnes.
His application is currently being considered by borough council officers.
But nearby residents say the facility already causes unacceptable smell problems in the area and any expansion of the composting operation will only make matters worse
They are also concerned about the increase in the number of heavy lorries pounding local roads that the expansion would cause.
There are also worries that a narrow bridge which would have to be used by the lorries could pose an accident risk.
Mr Broster plans to increase the amount of material he deals with by bringing it in from a wider area.
But he says a reduction in working hours of the site would lessen its impact on nearby residents.
