Hospital group to climb a mountain

A GROUP of colleagues at Warrington Hospital – along with “the odd partner thrown in” – will be raising money for good causes as they tackle Mount Snowdon.
When the hamstrings tighten and the feet get sore the 20 strong group will take comfort in the fact that monies raised for Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children specifically support children with disabilities and terminal illness.
“We are a mix of nurses and admin staff, some have walked seriously prior to this but the majority of us have never done anything like this before,” said Mags Howel.
The walk will take place on Saturday April 25 and Mags explained why they are supporting the charity that helps children with disabilities and terminal illness.
She said: “We chose Newlife due to twin granddaughters of work colleagues  benefiting from the support and equipment offered by the charity.”
The walkers will follow the Llanberis Path up Snowdon, starting and finishing in Llanberis and will cover 9.7 miles in total. The group have already been out clocking up the miles with walks of up to 8.5 miles and will be fit and ready on April 25.
“We have been training since the end of February, having done walks round Pennington Flash, Frodsham and Rivington Pike. There are two more training walks to take place before the big day.”
Newlife can guarantee that 100 per cent of donations made will be used to provide vital equipment for children with disabilities and terminal illness.
Not a penny is taken out for anything else.
Nora Smith, head of community fundraising and appeals said: “It’s the enthusiasm and commitment of individuals and groups like the Snowdon walkers that is key to us continuing to be able to support vulnerable
families, as the demand on Newlife equipment services increases.”
