LABOUR have announced their candidate for the borough council by-election at Poulton North on November 17.
Billy Lines-Rowlands, aged 27, will contest the by-election called following the tragic death of Lib Dem councillor Colin Oliver. It will be the third poll held in the ward this year.
Mr Lines-Rowlands lives in neighbouring Birchwood with his partner Kate and their two sons. He has region-wide responsibilities in his work for a national company.
He said: “This election is not a vote on things past, but a real debate about the damage this Coalition government is doing in the here and now, and the kind of future that Labour is working to build.
“I know that Labour has done so much for Poulton North – but there is still more to do. That’s why I am looking forward to getting stuck in at the heart of the community, and working to address the concerns and problems that hard-working families here face.”
Labour councillor Graham Friend, who was elected to Poulton North in May this year, said “By calling another by-election so soon after Cllr Oliver’s tragic death, the Lib Dems are asking Poulton North residents to head to the polls for the third time this year – at a cost of £14,000!
“Labour would not have called this election, and I believe it is shameful that at a time when their government is pouring cuts onto areas like mine, taxpayers have been put to yet more unnecessary expense.
“But Billy Lines-Rowlands is an honest voice for our area. As a father of two boys, he knows the difficulties that many families are facing in these tough times. I am delighted to welcome him to our team, and I know he has already thrown himself in at the deep end, taking up the fight on behalf of Poulton North residents.”
Mr Lines-Rowlands has launched a five point plan for Poulton North which sets out the priorities he will be working for. It can be viewed at www.warringtonlabour.com
The Liberal Democrats have already named local parish councillor Sandra Bradshaw to contest the seat.

  1. mr Friend is again jumping the guns and stating that Liberal democrats have called by-election. before he makes any statment publicly can he make sure that his facts are right. people of Poulton North have called by – election and not lib dems

  2. Is there nobody who resides in Poulton North that wants to represent the area. There are issues in this area that need a strong lead to resolve. The two candidates so far announced simply have not got the time required to solve some of our longstanding issues. Again, this by-election ought not to have been called to waste another £14k that WBC do not have. To have delayed this until May 2012 would have saved money that could have been spent on other beneficial things.
