HOOLIGANS threw a bike from a footbridge onto railway tracks at Warrington, causing damage to a passing train.
In a separate incident at the same location the previous day, another object was thrown onto the track.
British Transport Police today appealed for witnesses of the two incidents which occurred on Saturday (April 4) and on Good Friday.
The items were thrown from a footbridge on Hood Lane North, Great Sankey.
Investigating officer PC Glyn Thomas said: “The two items, one of which was a silver and red Apollo Mountain Bike, were thrown from the footbridge linking Hood Lane North to Georgia Place in the Great Sankey area of Warrington.
“The bike was destroyed on impact and damaged the train’s speed restrictor grid.
“Both services were carrying passengers and these mindless acts caused delays to the services. I would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious or witnessed anyone hanging around near the railway bridge sometime between 10.30am and 3pm on either the Friday or the Saturday to contact police.
“Actions like these could cause the derailment of a train resulting in serious and even fatal consequences.”
