TRADERS and councillors are celebrating further progress toward the regeneration of the Bridge Street Quarter with work moving forward on the latest stage in its redevelopment.
Colourful new site hoardings have been erected signalling the imminent start on site for Warrington Borough Council’s multi-million pound flagship scheme.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader, Warrington Borough Council said: “This is another great moment in the regeneration of Warrington town centre. This demonstrates how we are moving forward positively with our plans to revitalise the area.
The car park on Academy Way to the rear of Time Square has had to be closed to allow for the demolition process to get underway, for which we apologise and hope that it does not cause too much inconvenience, however, there are plenty of car parking spaces available within the multi storey car park further up the road towards Bridge Street”.
Work will commence in earnest on the Bridge Street Quarter scheme early in May with the demolition of the former Time Square to clear the site.
The first element of the Bridge Street Quarter regeneration scheme to be built will be the temporary market hall – on the site of what is currently Time Square – and the market will move into this temporary location early in 2017 whilst the new, permanent market hall is being constructed. At no time will the market close or cease to trade.
The Bridge Street Quarter Regeneration project is being delivered by Warrington & Co., on behalf of Warrington Borough Council with development partner Muse Developments. It will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new
permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.
