A HOUSE fire at Warrington caused by an overheated ‘phone charger during the night occurred because it was being used to charge an e-cigarette, fire chiefs have revealed.
The blaze in a bedroom at a house in Melrose Avenue forced the family to flee the property.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the family outside the house.
Cheshire Fire Service have issued a warning about the dangers of using incompatible chargers with e-cigarettes.

The fire started just before midnight when the family were sound asleep in bed. A teenage girl was awoken to find her bedroom full of thick smoke, and raised the alarm.
Two fire engines were sent to the scene and firefighters found the family outside.
Following a check into the cause the crews found an e-cigarette had been plugged into a phone charger and left on. The device had overheated and caused the fire.
Head of prevention and protection, Keith Brooks said: “This family has been very lucky indeed and this case highlights the importance of people ensuring they use the correct chargers, that come with e-cigarettes, and never leave them charging overnight.
“While the dangers of lit cigarettes are well known, we are now warning that the battery powered electronic versions also cause fires and this is a prime example of what can go wrong.
“The advice is clear: only use the charger that came with a device and never leave e-cigarettes unattended while charging, especially overnight.
“The family did have a working smoke alarm fitted which is always encouraged, along with ensuring that they are tested regularly.”
The Local Government Association (LGA), which represents all 46 fire and rescue authorities in England and Wales is looking into manufacturers introducing clear warnings to users of the dangers of using incompatible chargers with e-cigarettes.
The number of fires involving e-cigarettes is rising and is a major cause for concern.
At least one life has been lost and more could follow unless the issue is addressed properly.
A spokesman added: “We are warning users that it is simply not worth risking their lives to save a few pounds by buying dodgy, dangerous or incompatible chargers”
