Home extension refused – with sympathy

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have refused permission for a partly built home extension – even though they have considerable sympathy for the applicant.
They have invited the applicant to re-submit proposals with help from planning officers in the hope that a compromise can be reached which will allow the work to be completed.
Permission was originally granted for the extension at a house in Marina Avenue, Great Sankey but it was then discovered the roof design differed from that originally approved.
A new application was submitted retrospectively – but officers recommended permission be refused and enforcement action be taken to have the unauthorised development removed.
Originally, proposals for single-storey extensions to the rear, side and front of the house were approved in May last year.
But during construction it was brought to the council’s notice that the work had not been carried out in accordance with the approved plans.
Officers said the proposed extension – which had been largely built – was out of character with the property and the wider street scene and as such was an unacceptable and unsustainable form of development.
Members of the planning committee visited the site before reaching their decision.
