RESIDENTS have given the thumbs-up to proposals for a new development on the site of a run-down Warrington shopping centre.
More than 70 people joined borough council representatives at the unveiling of re-development plans for Harrison Square, Dallam.
The plans, drawn up by Helena Partnerships, in association with the council and Golden Gates Housing Trust, include the construction of 21 two bedroom homes, six two bedroom bungalows and two new shops. Homes on the site will be let for affordable rent.
Linda Letwenjuk, development manager for Helena Partnerships, said: “We were delighted so many local people came out to see the plans and were thrilled to get such positive feedback. It’s great to be a part of these exciting regeneration plans which will really transform the area.”
The development, part of the wider “Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam” initiative will replace a number of disused shops, creating a real community focal point.
One local resident said: “It’s nice to see plans are going ahead and making the area positive, something to make the people of Dallam proud.”
Among those who attended the event, which took place at Community House in the square were Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services and Dr Rita Robertson, director of public health and chairman of The Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam Project Board.
Cllr Wright said: “I’m thrilled work has now started and residents can see something being done. The council and partners have made a huge commitment to this project and are working in this area to ensure the best outcomes for our residents.”
A planning application for Harrison Square is due to be submitted shortly and work is expected to start on site in the late summer.
