WAR-time brides from Warrington are being asked to donate their wedding dresses to be put in display at a local heritage centre.
The Burtonwood Association, based at Burtonwood Heritage Centre is calling for GI brides to pass on their wedding dresses to give visitors a real life glimpse of life during the war.
The centre, situated on the site of the RAF Burtonwood airbase already showcases a number of artefacts accumulated over the years.
Aldon Ferguson, president of the Burtonwood Association, said: “People who served here have very kindly volunteered photographs, memorabilia and genuine GI dresses over the years. Almost everything you see here is original material from members or local enthusiasts.
“We’re trying to capture in images and objects the story of Burtonwood so without the generosity and interest of such people we simply wouldn’t be here.”
But the association says they are always keen to find new ways to tell the story of Warrington and its people to new audiences.
Aldon said: “If you are prepared to donate it, we can look after it very well indeed. Everything is properly logged and looked after, we keep the humidity down to maintain the artefacts we have and we work hard to get everything on display.
“We are always seeking financial support to enable us to expand and get everything on show over a period of time.”
