WARRINGTON Wolves made it three wins from four games but were pushed all the way by Hull KR in a thrilling 32-24 victory at the Hailliwell Jones Stadium.
After soaking up some early Warrington pressure it was the visitors who took the lead on seven minutes, Mantellato scoring a converted try.
A high shot by former Wolves star Tyrone McCarthy on Ashton Sims saw both players sent to the sin bin as tempers flared.
With both sides down to 12 men it was Warrington who made the most of the extra space with Matty Russell flying in at the corner on 19 minutes but Ratchford was unable to add the extras.
Then on 25 minutes Warrington took the lead with a walk in try for Joel Monaghan after being put through by Ratchford who added the extras from in front of the sticks to make it 10-6.
Three minutes later the Wolves were over again as Hill was held just short before youngster Philbin twisted over for a try. Ratchford’s conversion drifted just wide making it 14-6.
But Rovers hit back with Mantellato showing his pace to go over and then added the extras to make it 14-12 at the break.
The visitors took the lead in the 53 rd minute when Larroyer was able to force the ball down over the line with Mantellato adding the conversion to make it 14-18.
Warrington responded immediately as Matty Russell showed great pace to send Gary Wheeler over. Ratchford’s conversion nudged Warrington into a 20-18 lead.
With the Wolves keeping the ball alive they stretched the lead to 26-18 as Russell went over in the corner and Ratchford landed a great conversion.
But Rovers responded well as Campese put Horne over with 12 minutes left on the clock with the conversion making it 26-24 and still anyone’s game.
