Time to become a quitter

Pat WrightSMOKERS in Warrington are being urged to take the first step in giving up cigarettes for good on No Smoking Day which takes place on Wednesday March 11.
While studies show that two out of three smokers want to quit, only one out of five smokers actually do something about it.
This year’s No Smoking Day theme is “Proud to be a Quitter” – and Warrington’s lifestyle organisation LiveWire will be using inspirational stories of ex-smokers to highlight the life-changing benefits of quitting.
LiveWire stop smoking advisors will be will be out and about around Warrington in the lead up to No Smoking Day and will be in Warrington Bus Station on March 11 with advice and information on free Stop Smoking help around Warrington.
Dianne Clarke, LiveWire’s area neighbourhood wellbeing manager, said: “We understand that the majority of smokers want to stop smoking, but many find the task too daunting. No Smoking Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire smokers in Warrington to quit for good.
“With support, smokers are more likely to succeed in their quit attempt. That is why LiveWire will be out in force on No Smoking Day, advising smokers on the range of local services and resources available to them.”
The annual campaign is run by the British Heart Foundation and encourages hundreds of thousands of smokers to make a quit attempt on No Smoking Day.
Cllr Pat Wright (pictured), Warrington Borough Council’s lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services, said: “Smoking can have a devastating impact and we’re keen to encourage as many people as possible across borough to quit. We’re absolutely committed to the wellbeing of our local residents and we will always support any initiative to reduce smoking in the area.”
