ALL six General Election hopefuls for the key Warrington South seat will go head-to-head at a “Local to Global” question time.
The event – co-hosted by Warrington Friends of the Earth and Low Carbon Lymm – will take place at the Friends Meeting House, Buttermarket Street, Warrington on March 26 at 7pm.
Free and open to all, the event will put questions to the candidates direct from the audience on a wide range of local-to-global topics relating to the environment and global and social justice.
Neil Kingsnorth, of Friends of the Earth, who will be chairing the event, said: “It may be the closest general election for 60 years. Warrington South constituency is held on a majority of just 1,553 – the 51st smallest majority out of 650 in the UK.
“The outcome here could play a key role in deciding who makes up the next Government. Every vote will count and this event, giving a chance to hear directly from every candidate, will help residents decide where to put their cross.”
Zoe Cohen of Low Carbon Lymm said: “Sustainability affects us all – whether we realise it or not. From sustainable transport and supporting local jobs, to the air we breathe and the food we eat; and of course our children and grandchildren. We know the importance of these issues to many people in South Warrington and we want them to have the opportunity to put their questions to All the candidates before voting day.”
There is no need to book, but by registering at www.warringtonfoe.org.uk/hustings, people will get the chance to submit questions to put to the candidates ahead of the event.
The candidates (in alphabetical order) are: Bob Barr – Liberal Democrat; Kevin Bennett – Trade Union and Socialist Coalition; Nick Bent – Labour; Stephanie Davies – Green; Malcolm Lingley – UKIP; David Mowat – Conservative.
