New games area nearly ready

A BRAND new multi-use games area is currently being built at Warrington’s Dallam playing fields.
Due to be completed in two to four weeks, the improvements will include facilities for basketball, five-a-side football and netball. Partners will be working together to put on a range of activities for all age groups in the community, to enhance the area and help improve the health and wellbeing of local residents.
The games area was funded through the council’s capital programme through parks and open spaces, and the transformation is part of a wider project to redevelop and to revitalise the area, called The “Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam” project.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Access to and use of these facilities by all members of the community will have a positive impact on local young people and families as they become involved in sports.”
Cllr Pat Wright, lead member for health, wellbeing and adult services, added: “By helping to make sport more accessible to the community, not only will the health and wellbeing of residents be improved but so will community spirit and cohesion.”
The work is also part of the wider “Grey to Green” environmental improvement initiative which will see works to upgrade Dallam recreational ground and Bewsey Meadows, alongside highway improvements to Longshaw Street and much more. This is being spearheaded through the “Delivering Wellbeing in Bewsey and Dallam” project headed by the borough council and Warrington Partnership.
The opening event at the new games area is likely to be this month. Further details are available from Deborah McArdle, senior partnership and project manager on 01925 442149 or email [email protected]
