HUNDREDS of runners took to the country lanes to take part in the annual High Legh Robert Moffat Memorial 10k.
The race was won by James Wignall from Sale Harriers in a time of 33.01. The first female across the finish line was Andrea Hilldrup-Kershaw, representing Vale Royal Athletic Club, in 38:49.
They were presented with the new Robert Moffat Memorial Trophy, by Howard Moffat, an ancestor of Robert Moffat – a famous missionary who lived in High Legh in the 1800s.
It was the eighth year the race, organised by Lymm Runners and High Legh Community Association, had been held and once again it was over-subscribed and started with a full entry list of 650.
Many of those taking part had completed the free Lymm Runners beginners’ course which started in January and aims to prepare people to be able to run the 10k race.
Chris Lees, Lymm Runners captain and race director, said: “Every year the community comes out to support this event, and this year was no exception. A huge thank-you to everyone who raced and those who supported us by volunteering, spectating, sponsoring and providing a venue and refreshments for the event. We have had fantastic feedback and we’re already looking forward to next year’s race.”
Next year’s event will take place on February 28.
