LIFESTYLE and leisure group LiveWire and The Warrington Wolves Foundation joined forces to offer the men of Warrington a chance to join a free 12 week beginner’s fitness programme to help tackle their health and wellbeing.
A total of 44 men took part when the programme launched – and each was weighed and measured by a member of LiveWire lifestyles team and were
advised on how they will be put through their paces three times a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and Wednesday evening and Saturday mornins at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and Orford Jubilee Park.
Sessions include Bootcamp, Touch Rugby, Training Drills and Boxercise.
Throughout the 12 weeks participants will also receive training tips from Warrington Wolves experts and healthy lifestyle tips and advice from LiveWire’s trained health and wellbeing advisors.
At the end of the programme there will be a prize giving ceremony at the Stadium where all members will receive a goodie bag and ticket to an upcoming Warrington Wolves game, while the biggest weight loser will win a signed Warrington Wolves shirt and Warrington Wolves hospitality package.
Keith Maddock, LiveWire’s neighbourhood wellbeing director said: “We have taken the novel approach to reducing preserved barriers to weight loss for men by working with the Warrington Wolves and Wolves Foundation to encourage participation in a weight management programme.
“The 12 weeks will introduce the participants to many different sessions at Orford Jubilee Park and the Stadium and is a must for rugby fans, who will be able go behind the scenes and train like the pros.”
Dr Rita Robertson, director of public health, Warrington said: “The prevalence of male obesity is increasing; however research has shown that few men take part in weight loss programmes. We are delighted to be supporting this new joint initiative to attract and engage the men of Warrington to improve their health and wellbeing through encouraging participation in regular exercise.”
