kate hannonRESIDENTS of Appleton can pick up advice on staying safe and secure at a special event organised by Warrington Borough Council and Cheshire Police.
The event is at St Mary Magdalene’s Club, Dingleway, Appleton on Thursday, March 19 from 12 noon to 3pm.
On offer will be plenty of tips and freebies about how to stay safe, avoid becoming a victim of crime and discovering what activities are available locally.
The event has been organised following the recent spate of cycle thefts and shed crime in parts of south Warrington and exhibitors will provide practical help and tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime.
Free window and shed locks will be given out to eligible residents, as well as purse bells and fact sheets on avoiding scams. Giveaways will be provided on a first come – first served basis so be early to avoid disappointment.
Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured), the borough council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, said: “This is the latest in a series of successful events to be held across South Warrington which aim to encourage residents to take some simple steps to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. By providing simple information and advice, promoting resident Home Watch schemes and offering free safety equipment and security tips, south Warrington will be a safer and stronger community.”
Inspector Sarah Heath of South Warrington Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We take all reports of crime seriously and understand the impact that incidents such as these can have on residents. We are keen to reassure all residents that the police are here to prevent crimes as well as solve them, and we are delighted to form this partnership with Warrington Borough Council’s neighbourhood team to reach particularly our older and more isolated members of the community where ‘Fear of Crime’ levels are high.”
Also at the event will be Trading Standards, Home Watch, Cheshire Fire Service, the Healthy Ageing Team, Wellbeing Team, Disability Partnership, and many more organisations.
