Rebel councillor’s “new kind of politics”

Kevin Bennett.jpgEX-Labour councillor Kevin Bennett is promising to bring a “new type of politics” to his campaign when he stands as a Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition candidate in Warrington South.
Cllr Bennett, who quit Labour last month after several years of disagreement with the party locally, said once again politicians had shown their “disconnect” from ordinary people.
Prominent MPs from both the Conservative and the Labour parties had been filmed offering their services for cash.
“Even if they are ‘playing’ within the rules it shows contempt for the way the public view politicians today,” he said.
“I want to bring a new type of politics to Warrington South, open and honest, where MPs are accountable to their constituents, one where they become an MP to serve and not to let greed control what they stand for.
“I have pledged to only take an average working wage if I get elected and to spend as much time as possible in my constituency and not in the ‘Westminster village’.
“We have to make a stand against this ‘nasty’ type of politics and make sure that we don’t elect yet another ‘career politician’.
“We have to make a stand against the pernicious ‘austerity’ cuts, that the three main parties are hell bent on forcing upon us. Labour Party members say that no-cuts budgets are ‘illegal’ but there is always a choice and I would rather be a representative who stands firm on principle than one who has already thrown in the towel.”
