Failing school praised for its rapid improvement

Jean CarterA WARRINGTON primary school which was placed in special measures after a shock Ofsted report has now been commended for “significant improvements in teaching, the quality of the learning environment and pupils’ progress.
Stockton Heath Primary School is now said to have a “good” rating and is praised for is rapid pace of improvement, its enthusiastic pupils and its strong leadership.
The last time Ofsted inspectors visited the school it was said to require improvement.
Pupils are said to be outstanding for their behaviour, manners and politeness.
A Ofsed report states that the school has left no stone unturned to secure improvement.
Governors are also praised for their support and playing a crucial part in planning the school’s future.
Chairman of governors Rachel Brougham said: “This is a proud day for governors, teachers, parents and pupils and we are all delighted with the outcome of the inspection. It has been a team effort in which everyone played their part under the excellent leadership of Mr Dan Harding and his senior team. It is fully deserved and a great milestone on our path of continuing improvement.”
The report also noted the leadership and management of the school at all levels has continued to strengthen since the previous inspections.
Inspectors praised the excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of he school and the strong links with parents.
Some recommendations are made to help the school further improve
standards in pupils’ writing, marking systems and managing teachers’ expectations.
Mr Harding said: “This latest report clearly shows how much this
school has improved and progressed over the past 2-3 years. The incredible hard work and dedication of our staff, governors and most importantly children has made this outcome possible but the report also rightly recognises the crucial role our parents have played in supporting the school in its development. Our children’s positive values and
attitudes and their enthusiasm for and enjoyment of learning are highly commended; this above all else gives me the greatest sense of pride as it is something I have the pleasure of witnessing on a daily basis.”
Warrington Borough Council’s lead member for children and young people’s services, Cllr Jean Carter (pictured) said: “The improved quality of the learning environment at Stockton Heath Primary is testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff and governing body. The school has worked productively to address priorities and this is a really impressive transformation.”
