MP HELEN Jones has set out Labour’s promises to champion animal welfare on the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the ban on fox hunting.
The Warrington North MP said she believed there was a moral duty to treat animals in a humane and compassionate way.
She said: “I served in a government which achieved much to end the cruel and unnecessary suffering of animals by banning hunting with dogs, securing an end to cosmetic testing on animals, banning fur farming and introducing the Animal Welfare Act.
“I hope we can build on this by maintaining the ban on hunting, banning the cruel practice of using wild animals in circuses, ending the ineffective and inhumane badger culls, improving the welfare of dogs and cats by reviewing regulations on breeding and sale, and tackling animal cruelty on shooting estates.”
