Candidate hits out over “false claims”

A FURIOUS Liberal Democrat election candidate at Warrington has hit out over a letter sent out by his Labour rival.

In the letter, Labour candidate Nick Bent says: “Nick Clegg’s Liberal Democrats have broken all their promises and failed to stand up to the Tories.”
Cllr Barr retorted: “Yet again Labour’s candidate is having difficulty recognising the difference between fact and fiction.
“We have every intention of fighting a locally relevant, positive and active campaign for the two Warrington seats. While striving to be positive, we cannot and will not allow blatant untruths about our party to be spread by our opponents without challenge.
“There is evidence that our impact on the Coalition Government policies has been substantial. I have a list of 35 policies in our 2010 Manifesto that have been delivered and many of these were not Conservative policies.
“Independent observers have said that 75 per cent of our manifesto made it into the Coalition agreement, compared to 60 per cent for the Conservatives, who continue to complain that we have stopped them from doing what they wanted to do.
“Unlike the two other parties, we don’t have millionaire backers for our campaign in Warrington, so we can’t afford to deliver as much material through letter-boxes as they do.
“We hope the Labour candidate will not repeat this untruthful claim in future leaflets and will conduct a more honest campaign. I fear that getting him to withdraw his false accusation would be asking too much!”
