40 years of sport for the disabled

A WARRINGTON sports club which caters for disabled people has just celebrated its 40th anniversary with a celebration buffet and disco attended by more than 50 members.
Warrington Integrated Sports Club (WISC) – founded as Warrington Sports and Recreation Club for the Disabled in 1974 – had three founder members at the event.
The club meets on Wednesday evenings at Great Sankey Leisure Centre and caters for people with any form of disability, their families and friends.
It has become the foremost club of its kind in the North West and has, over the years, sponsored three members attending the Paralympic Games.
The club is funded by donations, annual subscriptions and entry charges and is run entirely by volunteers apart from a paid club leader who sets up the Wednesday evening meetings.
A club spokesman said: “We attempt to provide whatever activities and facilities the membership request which presently, are swimming, football cricket, New Age Curling, table tennis, badminton, gym workouts, pool and indoor bowls.
“For the more socially inclined, there are table games such as chess, dominoes and draughts.”
Anyone interested in helping the club in any way is asked to contact the secretary on 01925 733893
