Countdown begins for sponsored swim

Dave Thompson DivingTHE countdown has begun for Warrington Disability Partnership’s annual sponsored swim.
Money raised will go towards equipment and services to support independent living – which, as WDP points out – can be costly The event will take place on Saturday, February 28 at Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hood.
Members of Team WDP, including Afghanistan veteran Tom Coleridge and WDP founder Dave Thompson, are aiming to complete 64 lengths each.
But anyone who takes part is supported and encouraged to set their own personal goal.
Dave Thompson said: “It costs £1,000 to buy a new scooter to add to our Shopmobility fleet, which helps people with mobility difficulties to gain greater independence in Warrington Town Centre.
‘That’s just one example of the many costly things we finance, but I guarantee you it’s worth every penny and more to the people we serve in this town. Taking part in this swim and collecting sponsorship money is one simple thing anyone of any ability can do to assist disabled people in Warrington to lead independent lives.”
Dave is a veteran of the mile-long challenge – having pulled his 6ft 7 inches frame through the water last year with the use of only one arm and just a webbed glove and armband for support. However, this swim is open to people of all abilities.
He said: “It’s not about how long it takes, or how many lengths you do. “You can set your own personal goal or join Team WDP for the full 64-length challenge – it’s up to you.
“Every contribution is appreciated and meaningful. This is simply about taking time out to show your support for disabled people – maybe someone who lives on your street, or even a friend or family member – and ensuring we can keep financing equipment, services and our annual Disability Awareness Day.
