A GRANT of £120,000 has been awarded to Warrington Teaching School Alliance and the borough council with the lead school of Sandy Lane Nursery and Forest School.
The money is to improve and support early years education.
Cllr Jean Carter (pictured), the council’s lead member for children and young people’s services, said: “We’re delighted our bid has been successful. It means partners will be able to learn from each in order to provide better early education and care for children and families, and support the transition from nursery to primary school.
“We’re going to use this money to focus on raising the attainment of literacy and maths and we hope to do this by employing a specialist teacher and improvement partner to provide support to schools, nurseries and other providers.”
Funding has been allocated to only 60 teaching schools across the country who will partner up with local nurseries to drive up standards and share best practice.
Initially £60,000 was awarded and then a bid for a further £60,000 was submitted and has been awarded, to share this practice across the neighbouring authorities of Halton and St Helens.
