Books on prescription scheme launched

WARRINGTON leisure and livestyle group LiveWire has launched a new “books on prescription” scheme as part of a ground-breaking national initiative headed up by The Reading Agency.
Each of LiveWire’s 11 libraries now has a collection of books to support and inform people with dementia, their carers, family and friends.
The books, chosen by healthcare experts, people with dementia and carer groups are available for anyone to borrow and will form part of a
recommendation list for health care professionals.
Carers UK, Dementia UK and the Alzheimer’s Society are among organisations backing the scheme, which builds on the success of the Books on Prescription collection launched in 2013 which includes books for people with common mental health conditions.
Jan Puzylo, senior LiveWire advisor said: “Dementia presents a key national health challenge with a profound social, personal and economic impact.
“We hope this new scheme will help play its part by spreading understanding and knowledge throughout Warrington.”
