Students put a twist on Pancake Day

EVENTS management students are putting a twist on Pancake Day by hosting an American Pancake Brunch and Country Fayre to raise money for Warrington Foodbank.
Michelle Giordmaina, Lotty Cairns, Lily Callan and Serena Dhak – students from Chester University – will mark the start of Lent by hosting the event at Oughtrington Community Centre, Lymm, on Friday, Februrary 20 between 11am and 2pm.
The second year students, known collectively as Just the Ticket Events, will be serving up hot American pancakes with all the trimmings, as well as providing children’s entertainment during the February half term event.
As part of their degree assessment the students must organise an event to raise money for a chosen charity.
Team leader Michelle said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn about the world of events. We have created both the company and event from scratch and it has been a real eye opener to see what challenges and possibilities we will be faced with working in the industry in the future. We can’t wait to see the outcome unfold.”
John Dolan, branch manager, said: “Warrington Foodbank has now existed for just over two years. Its purpose is to help people in financial difficulties with short term relief in the form of food. In our first year we fed over 4,600 people in Warrington.
“The running costs of Warrington Foodbank are considerable – we have a warehouse to maintain, a van to run and ongoing administrative costs. Events such as the American Pancake Brunch and Fayre are really welcome as they provide an opportunity to raise funds for all these aspects of our work in a way that enables people to have a lot of fun at the same time.”
Tickets are priced £6 for adults, £4 for children and include a short stack of pancakes, a selection of toppings and a choice of refreshment.
A family ticket for two adults and two children is also available for £15 and includes a short stack of pancakes, toppings and a drink for all. All profits raised will be donated to Warrington Foodbank.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.justtheticketevents.co.uk
