WARRINGTON Collegiate scooped the top spot in a pan-disability football festival at Warrington Collegiate to increase inclusion in sport.
Teams from Warrington Collegiate, Salford, Stockport, and Riverside colleges descended on the state of the art sport facilities at Warrington Collegiate for the tournament. The five-a-side tournament, in the Pan-Disability League, had an emphasis on inclusion and enjoyment.
This was one of many pan-disability football tournament held in the North West aimed specifically at students with an impairment or disability.
Pan-Disability football festivals encourage mixed sex matches to get girls with impairments or disabilities playing the beautiful game.
Pete Connor, Sports Lecturer at Warrington Collegiate, is enthusiastic about the opportunities for players with disabilities, saying, “The main thing about these festivals is that everyone who takes part enjoys playing. We have both male and female players and their dedication and commitment to training is second to none.
“It doesn’t really matter about the result or who wins or loses, just as long as everyone is having fun. It doesn’t matter how good you are or what skills you have, it’s about the enjoyment of playing football.”
The final result was fun for all, plenty of laughs and friendly rivalry with Warrington Collegiate scooping the top spot after a play-off against Stockport. Riverside and Salford Colleges took third and fourth places.
