NEARLY 50 people have benefited from attending job clubs organised by Warrington Borough Council over a four month period – with 29 of them securing jobs.
Four job clubs were established between September and December by the council’s neighbourhood teams at Latchford East, Orford, Fearnhead and Whitecross community centres.
Success stories include; 29 members securing jobs, 11 undergoing training and one member even setting up a small business.
Seven members of the club have been able to claim additional benefits including five older people now receiving attendance allowance, a state benefit paid to disabled people who need constant care at home.
Five people have become volunteers, three of who are supporting the job clubs and acting as translators.
Referrals to the job clubs came from Job Centre Plus, Warrington Disability Partnership, Golden Gates Housing Trust, carers and the council’s wellbeing service.
The council’s lead member for leisure, community and culture, Cllr Kate Hannon (pictured), said: “It’s fantastic to see our job clubs doing so well and that members are really getting opportunities that are benefiting them and their families.
“We are absolutely committed to helping local people find work or raining, and we have a team who can help someone that is looking for extra support or advice.
“I would urge anyone struggling to find an opportunity, to come along to one of our local clubs.”
