Red tape delays funding for pioneering Survivors for Peace programme

FUNDING for Warrington Peace Centre’s pioneering Survivors for Peace Programme will run run out at the end

of March and Chief Executive Nick Taylor fears government red tape is

delaying additional support – despite promises of further support by

Chancellor George Osborne.
Mr Taylor (pictured above) says that although the Chancellor has written a letter of support and verbally said he will find additional funding to ensure the programme can continue, in reality the money runs out at the end of March.
He said there was still no guaranteed funding in place and for the programme to continue it needed sustainable funding for between three to five years.
He said the “iconic project” employed three people providing support for victims of terrorism in the UK.
“Despite assurances there has been no absolute agreement for additional funding,” he said, fearing Government red tape was to blame.
Meanwhile peace campaigner Colin Parry, who launched the foundation with his wife Wendy 20 years ago following the Warrington bombing which claimed the live of their 12-year-old son Tim and three-year-old Johnathan Ball, has urged everyone associated with the charity to keep it at the heart of conversation.
“We have no God given right to be here but we have every intention to remain here,” he said.
“We have received a very positive letter about additional funding from the Chancellor and we have to live in hope it is one he can deliver. I hope George and other politicians can ensure this charity survives.
“It would be a double tragedy if the Foundation didn’t survive.”
