Tenants to save £861,000-a-year on energy

NEW doors and windows are saving tenants of Warrington’s Golden Gates Housing Trust a massive £861,000 a year in energy savings.
More than 8,000 tenants have benefitted from having the new energy-efficient double glased windows and doors fitted as part of a successful “Security Package” programme.
As well as the savings, the work also reduces the carbon footprint of the local community.
The programme has been completed almost one year ahead of schedule by the Trust’s regeneration partner, KeepMoat.
Tenants of 8,600 GGHT properties have received the new doors and windows.
The marathon project, which began in November 2010, was the first main package of work that the then newly formed Trust started.
A total of 90,200 double glazed units installed, which would stretch 56 miles if laid out in a line!
The new windows improve the energy efficiency of homes by an average of more than 11 per cent, reducing household bills and keeping warm air in and cold air out.
GGHT chairman Roy Smith said: “The early completion of this project marks a significant milestone in our efforts to ensure all of our tenants have modern, energy-efficient homes. The new windows have made a huge difference to many tenants and the feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive.”
The replacement of older windows and doors is an important part of the Trust’s drive to reach the energy efficiency standards set out in the Government’s Housing Quality Standard, which all social landlords must meet by 2015.
