YOUNG Warrington people will be helped to achieve their full potential in life when they take part in a programme run by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The RESPECT programme involves young people aged between 13 and 16, who are taught fire service principles of self-discipline, teamwork and leadership skills as part of the programme.
The course, which starts tomorrow (Wednesday) and takes place at Warrington Fire Station, runs for nine weeks and involves young people aged between 13 and 16 years of age attending for one day a week.
Joanne Ayrton is the targeted youth support leader for the RESPECT programme.
She said: “We work with young people from all walks of life and help with various issues which may be preventing them from living life to the full. These may include low self esteem or a lack of confidence so we work together with the firefighters to help them get over these hurdles.
“The young people are referred to us from their school, which fund their place on the programme, but their parents or social workers can also contact us for assistance.
“During the nine weeks we work with local partners such as Cheshire Police to challenge the group in the hope that they will stay healthy and safe and are able to enjoy life and achieve their potential in the future.”
As part of the programme the team take part in team building exercises, work with firefighters on fire drills which include hose pipe running, learn about cyber bullying and get involved in a community project. They will also learn about fire and road safety before graduating in front of family and friends.
