VILLAGERS have been outraged by an act of “mindless vandalism” at a Warrington beauty spot involving a memorial bench being uprooted and dragged into a pond.
The bench was erected in memory of Frederick Tyreman who died last November aged 88, by his family.
Vandals uprooted the bench, which was set in concrete blocks and dragged it into Ackers Pit at Stockton Heath, Warrington.
One outraged local resident said: “What on earth is wrong with people these days that they think gives them the right to do things like this!
“First it was the male swan and eggs that went missing leaving the female swan alone and distraught, not to mention the Parish notice boards being ripped off and taken and signs being vandalised too – and now this !!
“What makes it even more disgraceful is that the bench had only recently been installed and it was clear for all to see that it was in memory of someone who had recently passed away and this must be so upsetting for his family.”
The incident was discovered on Saturday morning and has been reported to local police and Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Any one who saw anything suspicious on Friday evening or during the early hours of Saturday morning is urged to contact police on 101.
