Benefit cheat must repay £6,600

A WOMAN who defrauded Warrington Borough council and the Department for Work and Pensions of more than £6,000has been ordered to complete 80 hours unpaid work.
Kadie Dolphin, aged 29, of Barrymore Avenue, Warrington, pleaded guilty to benefit fraud and was also ordered to repay the money and pay £500 costs.
Magistrates were told that Dolphin failed to inform the council and DWP about changes in circumstances, mainly the fact that she was in receipt of her partner’s earnings.
Dolphin falsely claimed £4,353 housing benefit and £692 council tax benefit from the council and £1,572 income support from the DWP, a total of £6,617.
After the hearing at Halton Magistrates Court, Adrian Webster, the council’s benefits and exchequer services manager, said: “Every
day in the UK over 200 benefit thieves are caught – the clear message is – if you commit benefit fraud you will be caught.”
