Free stop smoking support

FREE “stop smoking” support is available to anyone who lives or works in Warrington – making it much easier to pack in the habit.
The service is provided by leisure and lifestyle provider LiveWire.
Two thirds of smokers are believed to want to stop smoking and with the sort of help available from LiveWire, tey are four times more likely to succeed.
Among the many methods of support available in Warrington are one-to-one appointments and drop-in sessions, where no appointment is necessary.
The sessions are run by trained LiveWire advisors who will develop a personalised quit plan. This includes setting a quit date and handy tips on how to overcome craving barriers.
LiveWire are working together with Public Health England throughout January and February to promote Public Health’s powerful campaign to highlight how smoking damages the body and causes a slow and steady decline in a process akin to rotting.
The campaign also tackles common misconceptions around hand-rolled tobacco, or roll-ups.
Use of roll-ups has increased significantly. In 1990, 18 per cent of male smokers and two per cent of female smokers said they smoked mainly hand-rolled cigarettes but by 2013 this had risen to 40 per cent for men and 23 per cent for women.
New figures show that half of smokers who only smoke roll-ups wrongly believe they are less harmful than manufactured cigarettes. In fact, hand-rolled cigarettes are at least as hazardous as any other type of cigarette.
Dianne Clarke, LiveWire’s Area Neighbourhood Wellbeing Manager, said:
“Thousands of Warrington people have used LiveWire’s stop smoking support services and we are hoping that this year, even more will take
advantage of the free expertise and resources on offer.”
Cllr Pat Wright, the borough council’s lead member for health, wellbeing said: “We remain committed to the wellbeing of our residents and by helping people to quit smoking, it will not only improve their health but it will mean that they will need less paid-for care in the future. There has never been a better time to quit smoking and I’d encourage anyone who is thinking about it to pick up the phone or visit a local LiveWire
site and get the support they need – it is out there and we want to help as many people as possible.”
