THE woman behind a campaign to move Warrington Cenotaph to a more suitable location is ensuring her army veteran dad will get a military style send off at his funeral on January 26.
David Francis, (pictured right) aged 79, of Chester Road, Lower Walton, was extremely proud of his daughter Julie’s campaign to have the Warrington Cenotaph moved to a more accessible location.
He was one of the first to sign the petition but sadly died recently.
He travelled the world with the army as a signaler in the Royal Signals, (pictured left) and Julie’s son Luke is keeping the family tradition alive as a serving soldier.
Julie said: “Dad was proud of what I am trying to achieve and sadly he wont see the outcome now – only from above.
She is helping to arrange a military style funeral for her dad, with a Union Jack over his coffin and a military bugler in attendance.
She is receiving help and support from the Royal British Legion and is hoping Standard Bearers will also be in attendance.
“Any forces past or present are welcome to attend my dad’s funeral to give him a proper send off,” she added.
The funeral will take place at Walton Crematorium on Monday January 26 at 11.40am.
