Weather warning for motorists

1

POLICE have issued a warning to motorists to take extra care on roads tonight, due to severe weather conditions affecting some areas of Cheshire.
Snow has created dangerous and slippy road conditions in many areas including Frodsham, Crewe, Middlewich, Northwich, Winsford, Sandbach, Nantwich and Tarporley and on the Cat and Fiddle road and Kelsall Hill.
Although the snow has now stopped across most of the county but drivers are being warned that freezing temperatures overnight could cause further issues on the roads.
Police say people should only make journeys that are absolutely necessary.
Cars should be fully defrosted with full visibility.
Drivers are urged to maintain a safe and constant speed and avoid sudden braking that can cause a car to skid.
Warrington Borough Council gritters were out on the roads this evening as the snow and wintry weather arrived.
A total of 310 km of primary routes were gritted – and more are expected to be gritted tomorrow.
The council says it is fully prepared for severe weather conditions and is well stocked with 2,300 tonnes of grit.
