MORE than 100 people were arrested for drink-driving over the Christmas period in Cheshire.
Police carried out around 2000 breath tests as part of Operation Blue Christmas, with the number of arrests down on last year.
The operation has been hailed as a huge success, after there were 112 less burglary victims in December 2014 compared with December 2013.
As part of the operation, wanted people were targeted with 190 offenders arrested and brought before the courts, whilst prolific offenders who may have been tempted to offend received a Christmas Card from the Constabulary reminding them we would be keeping an eye on them.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: “The results of the Constabulary?s hard work, along with the help of the public have resulted in a safer Christmas and New Year for our county. It?s encouraging people have heeded our messages about staying safe, drink driving and burglary prevention.
“We have seen a positive picture in terms of reductions in crime over the festive period and the public have given us great support, which I?d like to thank them for.
“I?d also like to thank Cheshire Police employees who worked hard over Christmas and New Year clearly demonstrating that we?re here to keep residents and visitors to our county safe.”
