Do your children eat too much sugar?

PARENTS in Warrington are being asked “Are your children eating too much sugar?”
The question comes from the borough council and healthy lifestyle group Change4Life as part of a new “Sugar Swap” campaign.
People who sign up to Change4Life Sugar Swap this month will receive a free pack to help them make on easy swap to cut back on sugar – such as
swapping from sugary drinks to sugar free, diet, no added sugar drinks, milk or water.
Change4Life is warning that excess sugar leads to excess calories and a build up of fat inside the body which can lead to excess weight and an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
The pack is full of ideas on how to cut back on sugar plus money-off vouchers, swap cards, stickers and emails and texts packed with recipes and ideas to help make healthier changes.
The council’s lead member for health and wellbeing, Cllr Pat Wright (pictured), said: “It’s surprising how much sugar there is in some of the things that we give our children, from the cereal they have for breakfast, the drinks they have during the day, the snacks they have after school and the puddings after a meal.
“This campaign aims to help families cut down on their sugar intake by making simple food and drink swaps at key occasions throughout the day.”
One way to cut back on sugar is to look at the nutritional colour
coded front of pack labels and go for more greens and ambers and fewer reds.
The free pack can be obtained by searching Change4Life online and signing up.
