Strict conditions imposed on town centre bar

STRICT licensing conditions have been imposed on a Warrington town centre bar which was the subject of a three month closure order last month.
The borough council’s licensing committee has decided to suspend the licence at Fusion Bar and Grill, Bridge Street, for three months from December 9.
In addition, they restricted licensable activities at the club from 2.30am instead of the previous time of 4.30am.
The committee also required the removal of the current designated premises supervisor, an increase in the number of door security staff on the premises to a minimum of four at peak time.
They also imposed additional conditions in relation to the use of the Town Centre Link radio and CCTV availability.
Fusion Bar and Grill was issued a closure order on Thursday, December 4 after police used new powers from the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 which came into force in October.
The conditions will significantly alter the way the premise operates, according to police.
Inspector Richard Spedding said: “The action taken by Cheshire Police in closing the premises under the new powers has been shown to be justified. Firstly by the application of a closure order by the courts, then by the outcome of the licensing hearing. It initially decided to suspend the License and has gone on to impose significant extra conditions on the operation of the premises going forward.
“This action has sent out a clear message to those individuals and organisations who fail to take their responsibilities regarding the retail sale of alcohol seriously.
“Cheshire Police will continue to act in partnership with the local authority and other agencies to ensure that our town centres are as safe as they can possibly be for those people who wish to enjoy themselves in a responsible and lawful manner.”
