PATIENTS who spent the Christmas period in Warrington Hospital were treated to a range of special programmes from Radio General.
The hospital radio station – which celebrated 40 years broadcasting last year – put on extra live programmes on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day and were also able to present a full schedule of live programmes on Christmas Day between 9am and 5pm.
In the run-up to Christmas there was live coverage of Culcheth Victorian Day and Lymm Dickensian Day, along with outside broadcasts from the Houghton Weavers concert from the Pyramid and Warrington Male Voice Choir’s concert from the Parr Hall.
Both concerts were repeated over the Christmas season
Hospital radio secretary Keith Inman said: “Christmas is a difficult time for people who are in hospital. By presenting these extra live programmes we hoped that we could make Christmas more enjoyable for our listeners”. He thanked David Birch and his daughter Isla and David Quinn for giving up their time over the Christmas period, in addition to those on Christmas Day.
Among those taking part in the festive programmes were Jim Jefferies, Mike Taylor, Patsy Kelly, hospital chaplain John Duffield and his daughter Katie, “Tony the Trackside Tipster”, hospital chairman Alan Massey, chief executive Mel Pickup and Warrington Mayor Cllr Ted Finnegan
The programme culminated with the latest news from the hospital’s delivery suite on the new Christmas babies.
