Gemma's art helps animal sanctuary

A WARRINGTON shop worker is one of 12 artists from four countries to contribute to a calendar to raise money for an animal sanctuary.
Former Bridgewater High School pupil Gemma Crombleholme, 29, was chosen from among illustrators in France, Spain, America and Singapore.
Her thought-provoking illustration for the calendar produced by The Vegan Art Calendar Group will raise money for Norwich-based Hillside Animal Sanctuary.
Gemma, who works at Golden Square’s book and gift store, The Works, came up with a piece of art work entitled “Mother Hen” depicting a chicken and her brood of six eggs.
She said: “I work part-time as a supervisor and spend the rest of the time illustrating and producing art work. I tend to do a lot of commissions for people wanting drawings of their pets as well as commissions for people who want wildlife illustrations.
“I particularly like drawing birds and of course all the coloured pencils I use and the Bristol board I draw on is checked to ensure they contain no animal products whatsoever.
“I’m also in the process of illustrating a book about a little bird that cannot fly. It’s a project that’s in the early stages. I met the author when I was at university and we have agreed to work together on the project.”
Golden Square Centre director Ian Cox said: “Gemma has done very well to be selected to be part of this calendar amongst all the other international artists and we wish her well with all her future artistic projects.”
