WARRINGTON Town FC will pay their last respects to former chairman Bob Smith, who sadly died on Christmas Day, at their home game against Northwich Victoria on New Year’s Day.
Bob, aged 78, who worked as a chemical engineer at Shell Stanlow, and lived in Thelwall, was chairman of club when they reached the FA Vase Final at Wembley in 1987 and the quarter finals of the FA Trophy in 1993.
He died in hospital on Christmas Day after a short illness.
During his tenure at the club he helped oversee various ground improvements at Cantilever Park.
He was involved at the club throughout the 70s and 80s and into the 90s, seeing them progress from the Mid Cheshire league and up the pyramid to the Northern Premier League as well as their FA Vase Final at Wembley against St Helens.
He leaves a wife Kirsten, daughter Tina, sons David and Peter, and eight grandchildren.
