Grassroots group is a winner

A WARRINGTON based community group is celebrating after seeing off hundreds of rivals to be crowned a “Grassroots Giving” winner.
The 161 winning groups won over the hearts and minds of the public and are each to be awarded a £500 funding pot after securing a big enough proportion of the 27,000 votes cast.
The Skipton Building Society scheme enables the public to vote for shortlisted groups – and Warrington’s Gymstarz and Jumpstarz received enough votes to make it into the top 161 winners.
Run by a handful of volunteers, the group has previously struggled to secure funding. It works hard to improve the local community and the funding from Skipton will play a huge role in its future growth.
Gymstarz and Jumpstarz offer weekly gymnastics and trampolining sessions for children from the Warrington area. These sessions help improve children’s overall fitness, strength, balance and body control.
The club believes that rewarding a child’s achievements can have a hugely positive impact on them and so they will use the funding to purchase trophies and medals they can present to the children, in order to encourage them to develop and continue with their club.
Skipton Building Society launched its Grassroots Giving programme as part of its 160th anniversary celebrations last year. In order to build on the legacy of the organisation, Skipton this year committed to 161 pots of £500 for their second year.
