Lost seal lands in famer's field near Warrington

A YOUNG seal found in a farmer’s field near Warrington earlier today (Monday) has been taken to a wildlife hospital after a four hour rescue operation.
Although “distressed and exhausted” the sea mammal which was found near Newton Brook inbetween Winwick and Newton-le-Willows at about 09:45 GMT, is expected to make a full recovery.
The creature was rescued during a joint operation by police, fire officers, animal welfare officers and a farmer who herded it with brooms and metal fences into a RSPCA trailer.
The grey seal, found about 17 miles from the nearest coastline and is thought to have travelled up the River Mersey, before getting “lost”.
It has now been taken to the RSPCA’s hospital in Nantwich, Cheshire for a full assessment.
Police say once the animal is fully recovered, it will be released into its natural habitat.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue Service (BDMLR) were called to the scene by police after it was found by a local dog walker.
Steve Marsh, from BDMLR, said: “It’s not an easy job certainly because they are large animals.
