NEW shadow childcare minister Alison McGovern dropped in at a popular nursery in Warrington – accompanied by Parliamentary hopeful Nick Bent.
They met with local entrepreneur Sue Jones, owner of the nursery and head of a Warrington firms that runs several nurseries locally and in the Middle East.
Labour claims some 1,700 children aged 3-4 would be entitled to extra free nursery care if they formed the next government.
Extending free nursery hours for three and four year olds from 15 to 25 hours for working families would mean parents could work part time for the first time without having to worry about the cost of childcare.
Mr Bent, prospective Parliamentary candidate for Warrington South, said: “Mums and dads tell me they are impressed with Labour’s pledge to extend free nursery care to 25 hours per week, as it will be worth over £1,500 per year for parents of three and four year olds. It proves Labour will help families to boost their earnings and get on in life.”
Alison McGovern said: “Families in Warrington face a cost of living crisis of David Cameron’s making, yet millionaires are getting tax breaks from the Tories.
“Childcare is a key cause of the cost of living crisis and Labour’s bold policies would make a difference to hard-pressed mums and dads.”
